Where was this filmed?

Does anyone know where this was filmed? The desert mountains are spectacular. Is this the Mojave Desert, or someplace in Arizona or Utah?

The bulk of the outdoor locations were likely all shot in California, I believe near Paramount Studios, judging by some of the scenery. If you look close during the motorcycle chase scenes, you will notice the infamous "Captain Kirk Rock", a small cliff where various episodes of Star Trek TOS were shot. Google it for pics. Once you recognize it, you'll notice it in dozens of movies.

I know this movie sucks, but I love it anyway. I grew up watching bad low-budget sci-fi...I couldn't get enough. It was always fun to imagine what I could have done with the same movie to make it better if I were in charge of the budget, cast and crew.

Anyway, it's got Richard Lynch, the best B movie villain of all time, so you can't go too far wrong. And those pyrotechnics during the escape from the arena sequence looked great for any budget.

The Vasquez Rocks are in one shot with the motorcycles, so it looks like it was shot around there. It's in Santa Clarita, about 20 minutes north of Los Angeles.

According to the commentary by co-director Allan Arkush on the new Shout! Factory DVD, various parts of this movie were shot all over California. The cave scenes with the mutants were the famous Bronson Caves in Bronson Canyon. Other locations are Chatsworth, Indian Dunes, San Pedro, and Vasquez Rocks.

1,000 mini-bios and I feel like I'm just getting started

Thanks, Woodyanders! I just got the Shout Factory DVD, but I still haven't opened it. It's backed with "Battletruck," another Roger Corman classic where two (words) become one. Wish they'd release "Death Race 2000" and "Deathsport" together instead.

Shout Factory rocks, by the way. They're everything Rhino once was ... and could have still been had it not been taken over by WEA.

Thanks very much. I'll look for the Vasquez Rocks. The desert landscapes are incredible here.

I image-googled 'Captain Kirk Rock' and the first couple of images were of him holding what looks like a dick.
