I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE CAN PRONOUNCE THE ALLEGEDLY HAWAIIAN WORD FOR THIS
WEREWOLF?

Heh, I've noticed that German tv stations tend to air this movie quite often. So far, I've seen in 3 times there (always late at night though). I can handle German but I have a thing against movies that aren't aired in the original language so I hope to see it in English some day.

I don't really know, as I don't know if it is on DVD or not. But I do know it is out on VHS, because I saw it for the first time ever on syndicated TV on Saturday night, June 3, 1989, from 11:00 pm to 1:00 am. I'd never heard of it before, but upon seeing it in TV Guide that week it seemed interesting, and I then saw and immidiently liked it. It got on my 100 favorite movies of all time list, and in 1990 I saw a VHS copy of it in a local video store I went to, and rented it out and watched it a number of times. I hope it made the transition to DVD, as I'd like to see it again soon. I thought it was somewhat scary, and had good pacing/direction from beginning to end, and thought the intwining of the hotel thief and werewolf plots was very good, as was the Hiawaiian setting. But I did think the highlite of it was the romantic encounter between the two leads while they were both in Hiawaii briefly, which was only meant to be a brief fling until they left, but still seemed very nice and realistic (and she was beautiful, I'd have gone for a fling with her as well). I am not cursed the way he was, but since seeing this I have often thought about myself in his place< and having flings like that as well.

Is this the film, where the audience gets to guess who the werewolf is,while a clock is ticking/shown?

I don't remember that scene or any clock scene in it. I think you must be thinking of another werewolf movie.
