What's the deal with this movie?

I don't get it, why does it have so high rating? It's a movie with literally no character development (the little girl who is supposedly the narrator was shown like twice in the entire movie, who is she anyway? If she is little sister who they are supposedly taking care of, tehy pay no attention to her at all) typical plot & awkward ending. The only good things were nature scenes and music.

"The little girl who is supposedly the narrator was shown like twice in the entire movie".

Did you sleep through the whole thing or something? She's got plenty of screen time. And what's with that "paying attention" thing? She was 14 so it's not like she needed a baby-sitter (plus, during the harvest period, Bill and Abby worked from dawn till dusk so she pretty much 'had to' take care of herself). Not sure what you mean about the ending being "awkward", either - to me it's about as poignantly pitch-perfect as they come.

The OP was obviously trolling... She's shown in about half of the film lol... These people are ridiculous. Ruin IMDB for people who actually care about Cinema

This movie is actually very special. Terrence Malick is the only filmmaker I know who creates (created) these types of wondrous pictures. It is a relaxing, yet subtly engrossing story. The best Steinbeck tale that Steinbeck never wrote; like East of Eden crossed with... Giant.
