What became of Linda Manz?

She really has something special about her and it is evident here. She can convey an emotion just using her very expressive, unique face. She was a wonderful little actress and her narration is one of the great points about this film. It's sad that nothing huge became of her after the early 1980s, especially considering her stunning performance in Out of the Blue in 1980.

Well, she was so badly let down by this clown of a DIRECTOR who gave her no DIRECTION and told her to ad-lib that no one seeing this would want to hire her!
That's why she talks to the other girl about her ear - because that's what she's looking at and it's the only thing she can think to talk about. How about a script?
Terrible Arselick.

It says on there: "THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL FAN PAGE OF LINDA MANZ. WE HAVE NO CONTACT WITH HER, WE JUST LOVE HER MOVIES"

I guess you didn't follow the link I provided that says:

The REAL Linda Manz is now administrator of this fan page ; )

Linda told me herself this is her page.

reply

Oops sorry Paul, missed the line at the top. What I quoted though is there on Feb 13. Maybe they should remove that to avoid confusion? Also, thought you might have mixed up FB links as her posts to your FB are a from a different FB page.

Ben Mankiewicz on TCM just said that Linda Manz appeared in a few movies and TV shows,Mobutu was more concerned with being a wife and mother to her three children and retired from the screen in 1997.

I love Manz in Days of Heaven. Her world-weary narration is such an integral part of the fabric of this beautiful film.

The only other role I remember her from is The Wanderers, in which she is quite irritating.

Here's a NY Times blog piece on her from 2014. https://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/05/05/now-screening-catching-up-with-the-original-punk-rock-girl-of-film/

She played one of the main characters' moms in Gummo. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119237/

reply

Wow... I did see Gummo, a long time ago, but until I read the article I posted above, I had no idea that it was her!

reply

Yes, she was the mom washing the odd-looking boy in the filthy tub while he ate spaghetti and chocolate bars. For some reason she had taped a strip of fried bacon the the wall.

reply

Sadly, Linda has passed away from pneumonia and lung cancer. She was 58.
