Is the full version on youtube?

The one uploaded to youtube is about 170 minutes. But it seems to have a lot of what people complained was cut out of the VHS version. Is the missing stuff just filler, like commercials and credits? I think I saw the full version once when a cable channel reran it in the 90s, and I loved it.

another thread mentioned the character of Worthy being cut out due to the wishes of actor Michael O'Keefe.

I read that also. Can't understand his reluctance. I figured there was some legal holdup as there certainly is a big enough audience to make a release profitable. Wonder if we can contact O'Keefe and plead with him....

I don't condone pirate versions, which are usually poor executed to begin with. But what are fans to do? No, I didn't buy one but can understand how people can be driven to this when there are IMO ridiculous hold ups like this.

I'm pretty sure Worthy was in it when I watched it on You Tube a couple of months ago.

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I doubt highly that Michael O'Keefe could pull something like that off. Maybe a Robert DeNiro, but not O'Keefe.
And don't they get some kind of residuals (maybe?) when those films are shown?

reply

Maybe that was the issue -- O'Keefe maybe had some kind of reissue clause that allowed him to renegotiate new fees if it was issued in some new medium and he simply asked for more money than the studio would give him, making the choice to either edit him out or not release it.

What surprises me is that they would make the effort to edit him out. Usually when they have these kinds of contract issues they just don't bother with new releases.

Universal put out the edited version as a "movie" version of the mini series in the 80's on VHS just like they did in the 80's with Salem's Lot there's a 111 min VHS version of that with tons of stuff cut out and diff ending
