I *LOVE* This Movie !

I love this movie too. I taped it back in the 80's when it was on late at night and have kept the tape. I play it every once in awhile. It's one of those feel good movies.

Yup, I saw it originally during it's broadcast in '78. I loved the female drummer in Charlie Martin Smith's band--she was real cute, kinda like Brittany Murphy in Clueless.

They're supposed to be a group of fringy losers who form a band and gain acceptance finally from the all the hot high school folks. There's a battle of the bands with a typically lousy hard rock (all-guy band) band. Probably if "Cotton Candy" had followed a popular teen flick from '82 of which we all know the title, then it would've hit bigger.

I haven't seen a frame of it since then, but would love to compare mental notes with my earlier enthusiastic self.

I don't know that Cotton Candy was any great piece of Hollywood history, but I'm proud to say that it was shot at my high school alma mater, Lake Highlands High School, in my senior year, 1978. Although I didn't get to be in the movie (was in the real band, but I had to work that day), I did get to be in the presence of Ron Howard a couple of times, back when he and I both had more hair. It was a "movie of the week" -- remember when we had those, instead of reality tv? Cameo appearance in movie by Mr. Whitman, one of our asst. principals.

Hey there. I graduated in '77, so I missed out on that. I did see several of my friends that were still there in a few of the scenes.

I want to love this movie. It looks so awesome, and Charles Martin Smith is one of my favorite actors.

But I can't seem to find a DVD or download anywhere. All the YouTube clips (except an excerpt and a promo, just enough to whet my appetite) are removed. How frustrating!!!

Come on, Mr. Howard. Be a swell guy and release it officially!

I know I liked it when I saw it many years ago. I hope to be able to see it again. I hope that if it is ever shown again that someone will let us know. It would be especially good on Blu-ray or at least DVD.

This movie is one of the reasons why I started playing guitar. I wish I could find a pristine copy of it instead of the faded and out of focus copies we see on you tube.
