So is she his daughter?

And how does the movie end?

reply

Yep. In the end it turns out she really is his daughter.

reply

So how do they deal with it?

reply

She leaves him, just as her mother left him and he knows it which is why he smiles and drives off.

reply

Thank You.

That's not true. It's never known whether it's his daughter or not. He tells her the truth and she is convinced that it isn't true, so they have a triste. She leaves in the end because she wants the relationship to 'end beautifully'.

If you recall he looks at the picture of her as a child, and then says that he must leave for Rome the next day, but that it's not goodbye. She rushes to him on the balcony, kisses him, and says "It was beautiful".

They never find out one way or another whether it is her daughter or not. And both are heartbroken. Him driving off, and her hiding and watching him as he goes.

Yeah, it was strange. Have these people never heard of a paternity test? Pretty sure they were around in the 70's.

Anyway, best line in the film "It's my pipi!"

~What if this is as good as it gets?!~

reply

It's never known whether she's his biological daughter or not. To her it doesn't matter at all. As she says, "that's not a father".
