Kristofferson's beard

I was confused about why Kristofferson was wearing a false beard in the final scenes, until I read that (due to filming going so far behind schedule) he left the production for a month to fulfill his concert touring obligations. I guess he shaved for his tour, then had to wear the prosthetic beard when he returned to the set.
