is it like 'the deer hunter'?

i haven't seen this movie, but i hav seen T.D.H. ARE THHESE MOVIES SIMILAR OR COMPLETELLY DIFFERENT?

reply

It's really not similar at all totally different movies, but it is similar in this way. It shows the effect on the soldiers when they come back home. The damage they have suffered and how they are struggling to fit back in.

while a lot of the Vietnam films are similar, The Deer Hunter and Coming Home are not. I saw Deer Hunter last week and really didn't like it much and saw Coming Home and enjoyed it. The protaganist of Coming Home is a female whereas in The Deer Hunter the focus is on 2 men. Plus Coming Home never shows Vietnam at all.

I don't think they're alike at all. Coming Home is centered on a love triangle story between Voight, Fonda and Dern. Contained in that story are commentaries on social issues that the Deer Hunter doesn't deal with too much, primarily feminism and the rights of veterans and well as handicapped/disabled. While Coming Home is sad in a very cathartic way, the Deer Hunter is sad more in a tragic sense. It's a lot more "down" than Coming Home, if that makes any sense. Its story arc is much broader as well, covering the pre/during/post phases of the war experience. Coming Home doesn't feature any combat and is primarily concerned with the social experience at home and how its main characters change through certain realizations. By comparison, the Deer Hunter is much more subtle in its message (even abstract at times) and its characters less representative of specific, metaphoric social issues.

No war scenes in coming home

reply

Nope.
Both movies are set in the same Era, but the characters go through different situations and the stories are told differently.

reply

no war scenes but it the effect of ptsd on returning soldiers.

reply

The characters from TDH feel like real people while the ones here are more like those in a Lifetime drama, as someone else said.
