My favorite Western

I love this movie - just watched this again after several years. I grew up in Colorado and Wyoming in the 1950s, and the movie was genuine - cowboys spoke and acted just like that. Cowboy work, chasing stray cattle and riding behind a herd, is just like that, hard work and dangerous. The romance between Frank and Ella is just delicious - understated and gentle, yet intense and with a touch of humor - lovely! James Caan and Jane Fonda each brought such authenticity to those roles and both looked great on a horse :-) The soundtrack seems a bit distracting now but not bad. It's just a wonderful movie.

Agree this is a terrific Western, albeit a bit 'modern', with a couple of great Western veterans -- Robards and Jim Davis -- providing formidable, menacing bad guys..
