Chinese astrology

I love this film. Obviously it doesn't make any claims to being great art - in fact would anyone support the idea that the anti-intellectual Walker might just be the UK's equivalent of Samuel Fuller? The plot doesn't hold much water either but it is one hell of a lot of fun and often fascinating. One of Walker's most underated films. Jack Jones gives a far better performance than anyone had a right to expect, and of course the film really belongs to Sheila Keith.
Can anyone explain why Mr B. (Bill Owen) studies a book of Chinese astrology in one scene, the character admitting it was all above his head? Was there some kind of re-birth motif going on here? It's been quite some time since I last watched it.

Supernatural perhaps, baloney perhaps not
