Gail's hairstyle

I think Gail Cooper (Holly Palance) was very beautiful and glamorous in the movie and I was wondering if her hairstyle had been a tribute to Princess Leia's character. When Star Wars came out in 1977 that kind of hairdo should have become very trendy for the time.
