Inspired the Island?

i should think that 'Parts: The Clonus Horror' inspired 'The Island' not this, seen as the director of 'Parts' has taken the director of 'The Island' to court over it.

The Island is a complete rip off of 'Parts' so you might not want to ruin this film by mentioning them in the same sentence

I saw Parts: The Clonus Horror on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and agree that was the inspiration for the The Island.

In fact, the movie links page for The Island lists it as "Remake of The Clonus Horror (1979)"

I think it links it in this way as a mistake as there is an ongoing legal battle between the directors of both films or at least the studios that they each come from, claiming that The Island is a rip off of Parts: The Clonus Horror.

if you go to the message board for Parts there are lots of threads about it. I too saw the MST3K version - i love it

The Island is a remake of Parts: The Clonus Horror - but it's not an authorized remake.

ok, fair enough - that would make sense.

If you're interested, here's a review of The Island that includes a section on the similarities to Parts: The Clonus Horror:

That was a fun read, Alpha, thanks for posting the link. The Island is so blatantly a rip-off of Cronus that it's actually embarrassing. I liked the author's comments about the DVD's director commentary. Bay certainly seems like a real d!ck to work with and a very unlikable and immature person in general.

The "re-caps" on the site remind me of a series of movie books I have, called the Golden Turkey Awards, that feature humourous synopsi (is that the plural of synopsis?)& reviews of god-awful movies. It was co-written by Michael Medved, of all people. Must have been before his lobotomy.

Now I have to get my hands on a copy of Cronus!

Actually, "The Island" is a much closer adaptation of the novel "Spares" by Michael Marshall Smith:
Dreamworks bought the rights to this novel, then when they lapsed ended up making "The Island".
It's possible Smith saw "Cronus" but unlikely, but its certain that execs/producers at Dreamworks read "Spares" (which, by the way, is a terrific book)

The Island (2005) is practically a scene-for-scene remake of Parts: The Clonus Horror (1979). Both are told from the perspective of a male clone who partners up with a female clone. Spares (1996) was almost certainly inspired by Parts as well, but it's told from the point of view of someone who works on the clone farm. Perhaps The Island borrowed from both, but if it comes down to one, it would be Parts/Clonus.

I've never seen the Clonus Horror. Want to check that out.
