The DVD

Anyone else disappointed with the film quality of the DVD? It's only slightly better than the VHS version. I don't know, some parts look remastered while others look like they just forgot certain parts. I was thinking maybe it was the way 70s movies were filmed but Earthquake and Towering Inferno both were remastered and look great! Any thoughts or idea?

However, saying the region 1 DVD is only slightly better than the VHS is misleading

I disagree. Point 1: I am entitled to my opinion. Point 2: MY copy of the DVD IS only slightly better than the VHS.

My Samsung DVD player is in perfect shape, being relatively new. And I stand by my statement that the Coma DVD is only slightly better than the VHS. Perhaps you should up your standards for your TV viewing if you think this picture print is superior to others.

Don't be mad with me because you can't come up with a good comeback...or can't afford a good home entertainment system!

Unlike Towering Inferno which had loads of extra features, this film has just been put on dvd with nothing much added to it, which is why the picture is ok with out being amazing, i have always thought this was a good thriller, but its just been considered a good film, something you watch from time to time on dvd, i watched Charade the day before, now that is an excellent film, but even North By Northwest is better then Charade, its all down to opinions in the end which is the better films.

Back in 2000 when I got my first DVD player I would have been disappointed. But it wasn't long after that that I learned from experience that when you buy a DVD of an old movie that wasn't a blockbuster, the picture quality is probably going to be pretty mediocre. I remember Coma got some attention when it hit theaters, but it wasn't a huge hit by any means. So they wouldn't be expecting the DVD to sell through the roof, and naturally they aren't going to invest a lot of money in cleaning it up.

Is it worth it to buy the DVD?

reply

Its a film worth seeing. And may not be out of this world but will keep you on the edge of your seat.

reply

The film is sure worth seeing. I was not sure if they edited a lot out on the DVD. The movie "Coma" is one of my favorites ever!
