Genvieve Bujold

Bujold was really outstanding in this film and I expected a long career from her but she has apparently fallen off the face of the earth like a lot of other talent from the 70's and 80's...anybody know what happened to her?

reply

Maybe she got old (by Hollywood standards, not mine.) Seriously, how many 40+ women do you see around compared to men in that age group? It seems like women go from being a sex pot to disappearing for a decade or so, then coming back as grandma and/or crazy older lady.

Except for character actors. Those women seem to be allowed to age on screen.

If you look at her profile you'll see that she's had quite a busy career. She was first choice for Captain Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager but quit after two days of filming because of the schedule.

reply

She is still with us. I agree, she was OUTSTANDING in this motion picture. It is a shame she was not nominated.

reply

I couldn't agree with you more she was so talented and just stunning to look at.

Echo all positive comments about Bujold. Catch her performances in Anne of the Thousand Days, Obsession and Dead Ringers. While you believe her as the character she's playing, she always radiates the intelligence and passion that distinguish her as an actress.

I understand that very intelligence and passion have made her rather a diva. She has a reputation of being difficult to work with. Also, she took projects that interested her vs. ones that would've advanced her career. Those two factors no doubt contributed to her not becoming a bigger star.

She's actually older than Douglas, could you tell?

Plz visit my profile to take a look at unsolved threads.Plz use relevant title,SOLVED if so.

reply

If Michael Douglas has one more face lift... But Bujold is still working. I just noticed a film here (NYC) in which she is playing. It looks to be an independent, but I'm not positive. Really there is only so far most actresses can go in the big Hollywood films after a certain age (sadly).

reply

Did we see the same movie?
I know nothing of her career and don't recall ever having seen her in anything else, so I cannot comment on her overall abilities....but her performance in this movie was TERRIBLE!
I didn't have a problem with the movie as a whole but I found her performance to be completely wooden, stiff, and devoid of any emotion or depth whatsoever. (Yes, I realize that was part of her character...but c'mon! She was a robot!)
There weren't any really great performances from anyone but hers was hands down the worst of the lot.
But I suppose that's just my opinion.....

reply

naw her performance was perfect for her character. did u watch the film from the beginning? unless u watch it from the start u might not find her character likable because she is quite cold. she was damn sexy tho.

reply

she was great at Coma.she did made films 70s-80s and in early 90s late 80s too.but did she made any films now days

Gordon P. Clarkson

I actually do not think it is sad unlike in the 70s "big Hollywood movies" usually stink nowadays and Indie movies are far more interesting.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

Very outstanding. She was also in Tight Rope in 1984 and was outstanding.

reply

She is fantastic in this movie and very gorgeous

She also did a very nice job in "Eye of the Beholder" with Ashley Judd and Ewan McGregor...she's got class beauty and intelligence, and has always been a cut above the rest...

reply

I saw her in Tightrope with Clint Eastwood and I haven't seen much of her to late date. Possibly, she is up in age and semi retired now?

Ever been to Boston? There are a lot of French Canadians running around.

I found Ms. Bujold's performance in the film fearless and full of conviction. This is one of her best performances...right up there with Dead Ringers.

reply

Superb performance by Ms. Bujold in this, "Dead Ringers" and "Obsession." It's too bad that American films discard most actresses once they have the gaul to turn 30, but Europe has the right idea. She completely carries this film, though the whole cast is very strong.

reply

Did you see her in Tight Rope?

Out standing actress from the 1970s and 1980s

reply

I did indeed see her in "Tightrope," in the theater when it was released. I've been trying to find that one again because lately I've been on a Clint (and Genevieve) kick.

She is a tremendously versatile actress who, in spite of her intense beauty, still seems very approachable and real. She has sophistication, charm and profound talent. How I love this woman!

She is incredible in Tight Rope and Coma. She is very versatile. She can take any role and own it.

reply

She sure can take any role and own it, and she does all the time. She seemingly came out of nowhere to become one of my favorite actresses. I'll watch anything with her.

reply

I couldn't forget her topless nun opposite Christopher Reeve in MONSIGNOR. But I feel that Coma is undoubtedly her best work, and a most stimulating shower indeed.

I first discovered her in Alan Rudolph's Choose Me (1984), where she plays Dr Nancy Love. Superb actress, unique and intense.
She's also quite memorable in a small role in Rudolph's Trouble In Mind.

Both worth seeking out if you admire her work.

Um no LorriePaige.

So many actresses are FAR WORSE in EVERY freaking capacity compared to the DIVINE Ms. Bujold these days it's ridiculous. Movies today are so personalized and catered to a specific audience. They are written so that every shot will be a close up that will register on netflix and amazonprime and the whole atmosphere is lost. Same thing with actors. It may seem like the actors are better because every shot is a close up - but what about the actor AND the scene? Genevieve was surrounded by REAL corpses (extras) and made us believe that such a catastrophe within the realms of the hospital politics COULD exist. She was that brilliant.

There is NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO I cannot stress it enough that there is NO actress today that could pull off in any capacity what Ms. Bujold was able to do. Stupid audiences and stupider movies that cannot accessorize for anything and certainly don't allow the liberty for story that make such magical things possible

You are wrong LorriePaige - it is the joke of young actresses today that have missed out and will NEVER have the opportunity to display there talent (or lack thereof) in the brilliant cinematic way that Ms. Bujold did.

reply

She was making French films before and has been doing same since Coma, Tightrope, and any other English speaking films. She is still working, but only in French films, from what I've seen. Obviously, she is fluent in multiple languages.

reply

anyone see her in "the king of hearts" with alan bates??? she was really good in that
