alternate ending (?)

I recently watched this film when it was broadcast
on the Drive-in channel and was curious about the
terrible ending. The version I saw featured Kirk
walking into the building, and than a quick cut of a
window blowing out. There was also a voice over that
tried to explain everything. Was there originally a
different ending or did they just run out of money.
I don't know if anyone can answer this because I
can't imagine anyone being an expert on this film.

I remember a complete different ending.

Kirk Douglas is alive. His son has total control of the nuclear plant and there's a demonstration in the streets with people yelling:"what will become of our children?" and the films ends like this.

You're both right as there were two endings. The "Holocaust 2000" cover version ending is where Kirk Douglas' character is handed his child. We then see a view from above them and the shot gets wider and wider. Meanwhile we can hear the chant "What do we want our children to be when they grow up? Alive!!" We then see a group of people dancing around a bit and the film ends. Sadly that left us with a serious loose end - what became of the nuclear plant project because his son was left running the show.

The other version in my opinion ties things up better. "The Chosen" cover version proceeds more or less the same up to when Kirk's character is holding his child. But then we hear what he hears - voices in his head from a character in the film telling him that his son must be destroyed - or something like that. He takes a flight back to the location of his son (who's now in charge) and has acquired some dynamite which is in sewn inside his jacket (How it remained undetected at the airport is not revealed). As I recall his son thinks his father is dead incidentally. Then comes the couple of shots a previous poster was talking about. Kirk enters the boardroom and his 'evil' son looks up at him. Next comes the explosion depicted by the window shot and presumably they're all dead after that (except for Kirk's new wife and child). I shouldn't really be saying it's Kirk's child but you know what I mean - just the character Kirk Douglas is playing.

I've seen both these endings, Holocaust 2000 on the old UK pre cert video and The Chosen on a baterred old Greek tape. I always thought the longer ending on The Chosen looked like it had been tacked on as an afterthought, perhaps to please the American audience? I always prefered the Holocaust 2000 ending. A bit of ambiguity goes a long way.

Be horny.

MAY CONTAIN SPOLIERS:

I liked the longer ending from "The Chosen" version better.
Since it showed Kirk Douglas stopping his son's evil plans

I saw the version with the really loose end. I found that really weird. other ending sounds better. Creepy film.

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

I love the "Holocaust 2000" cover ending although I've never seen the other one.
I thought it was a great way to end the movie.

I thought Simon Ward's character, the evil twin, was the antichrist; however, the woman always seemed to pop up unnecessarily and was clearly afraid to visit the church or the priest when she was pregnant. Good film in the OMEN tradition.
