I Swallowed My Gum

You made me swallow my gum!

One of my Top 5 favorite funny lines of all time. This movie actually has a lot of funny moments in it. I'm surprised there are so few posts.

Oh yes, a much underrated film. Stands test of time and sure to get more recognition as played more often. Has just the right snappy flow to be timeless.
Subtle, in jokes, and some broad reaches. Fun range.
1978 was a tough economic time and the film's humor just didn't fit. Lasts tho.
"I married my father. It wasn't what you think. It was a very tasteful wedding."
Calendar says Eat at Tom & Jerrys Diner
"Put the bed on the gun."
"I wasn't talking to you, Schnell!"

'Maybe it's a different Paris?'

'You know how to dial, don't you? Just put your finger in the little rounds hole.'

'Wun Jin Sling is the waiter.'

This movie made me laugh so hard in so many places. The repeating gag of prepared drinks always pulled out of desk and nightstand drawers is also pure genius. This movie is a true gem.

Hoogoo, I completely agree! A true gem, indeed. Wonder how I missed it all these years? I find it way funnier than Murder by Death, maybe because I'm a fan of noir and Bogart. The drinks coming out of the furniture and the ridiculous hats worn by the women are terrific.

If a comedy can make you laugh out loud in two or three places, those moments are put in the trailer and you've seen the most popular modern comedies already without ever having to sit through the stupidity of most of the movie. Here, the crackerjack lines are every couple of minutes, and there is something silly to laugh at in every scene. There is no wasted time, either. It moves at a better pace than The Maltese Falcon, has more dangerous women than The Big Sleep, and more memorable supporting characters than Casablanca. Wonderful film!

"You know how to dial, don't you? Just put your finger in the little round holes" made me laugh as well. I saw her put on the Lauren Bacall pose at the door just before she said it. And I wondered how she was going to rephrase that famous line.

I just discovered this movie on TCM, and the lines keep coming... The wacky humor makes me laugh once watching it, then again later thinking about it. Very much like the wordplay between Chico and Groucho in their movies, clever and silly at the same time, and way more sophisticated than today's so-called comedies based on bodily functions and men as arrested adolescents. If you enjoy the movies this was based on, the lines get funnier, the signs in the background will make me sit up straight with recognition, and you'll wonder why these lines aren't quoted as much as anything from Caddyshack or Airplane.

I'm watching the movie now and I rewound that part about 6 times. I laughed so hard :-)

You have ice cream. Why are there tears?
