What a pity !

It is a shame that the Carry On series had to end with Emmannuelle ! This parody was a step up from the ghastly Carry On England & the quality of scripts did get a bit better with Carry On Again Nurse ( as penned by Norman Huddis ) and Carry On Dallas ( as written by Vince Powell ) . Those two would have been superb and could have spearheaded a Carry On figthback in the 1980's . Up untill 1988 they had most of the gang around & comedies based on the top soap of that decade and the great political topic ( hospital cuts ) would have been profitable . Carry On Emmanuelle could have been better had it been a sharp satire on adult films filmed as soon as the Emmannuelle craze broke in 1974-75 . If Norman Huddis had comically exposed the pointlessness of porn then he would have been onto a winner . Had they used messars Williams , Butterworth , Sims , Douglas & Connor along with Hattie Jacques , Charles Hawtry and Babara Windsor as well as Terry Scott then all would have been well . That's Carry On ! was the most popular entry in the series after Carry On Dick and it was the closest to the glory days of the mid 1960's to early 1970's . They had a winning formula , they changed it and failed with a lacklustre porn spoof . Kenneth Williams potty French accent & Suzanne Danielles good looks plus some tougne in cheek dialogue effectively delivered by the likes of Kenneth Connor , Jack Douglas , Peter Butterworth & Joan Sims save this from being as bad as Carry On England . But Norman Huddis could have saved the Carry On's had he written Behind , England & Emmannuelle then the box office reciepts would have have healthy enough to warrant Carry On Again Nurse & Carry On Dallas being filmed .
