Favorite Line

My favorite line was Jacob's retort after Renato told him, "You French make *beep* coffee." Jacob's retort was, "I've been called black and I've been called queer, but never French." They did not have a good equivalent of that in "The Birdcage".

Oh, how could I choose just one favorite line in a film chock-full of them? I'll narrow it down to three.

Renato to Albin: "Are you dying or cooking?"

Renato to Laurent: "Come here. Let's toast this catastrophe."

Charrier to his chauffeur (blowing his own cover): "What do you mean, 'how much'?! What do you mean, 'madame'?!

:D Nice one. Also liked that he felt strongly that white wasn't his colour in that it made him fat.

reply

"Oh, My God I wanted black! White makes me look fat!"

"I can't sing without my fan!"

"You can have my wigs and red heels."

"No, don't the jam on like it wa a painting!" (more about Zaza'a overly dramatic attempt to spresd jam on tosat. Then, when Zaza broke the toast and went to pieces, that was funny, too.

ALL of this brilliant comedy was hilarious. And I'm not referring to shy, well-mannered titteringm , here snd there. I mean this movies makes laugh LOUD and OUT LOUD, and it did the trick a dozen times throughout the movie. It was a movie that was made simply to be enjoyed, ridiculously so.
