Dubbing
I am pretty sure the English dubbing of this film was done BY THE ORIGINAL ACTORS!
shareWish there was a way to find out for sure. In La cage II it sure sounds like Robin Williams dubbing Renato's part, which would make sense because that's the role he played in the birdcage.
shareIn any case, look for the original language version. Dubbing ruins so many nuance.
shareSorry but the dubbing in the American version was NOT done by the French actors. Compare the dubbed voices to the undubbed. No way are those the same actors. Besides how do you know that the actors even knew how to speak English?
shareThat, and the two main actors were also dubbed by someone else, depending on whether you live in Italy or France.
shareDubbing of La Cage is a disaster if for only one reason -- Michel Serrault. There's no way to interpret his yelps and exclamations; all the vocalizations that aren't words. It's a classic comic performance which truly is lost in translation.
shareAbsolutely right, Serrault’s vocalizations cannot and have not been duplicated by dubbers. To listen to a dubbed version is to forfeit the value of the film.
