MUST BE RE-MADE INTO A MUSICAL!

I've been a big fan of 'The Birdcage' and 'La Cage Aux Folles' for years and I only recently got to see the musical of 'La Cage Aux Folles' on stage and it was outstanding. Well with Mamma Mia doing so well - how about a movie musical of it?

I can't understand why the outstanding musical has not been filmed yet. I was a smash hit on Broadway and around the worls and has at least one bona-fide all time classic musical anthem in "I Am What I Am". I'm sure it would be a smash hit.

I agree heartily -- this would make a superb movie musical, and Nathan Lane could reprise his movie role. All the other actors should, I think, be re-cast.

When they re-cast, (if it ever occurs to the studios what a good idea it would be to film this musical), John Barrowman must play Albin ... have you seen him do "I Am What I Am""?:

John Barrowman and Neil Patrick Harris!!! Would love to see Joss Whedon direct...

Believe me, they tried and tried. Basically, Jerry Hermann maintains strict control over it - it's well-known that he was unhappy with the film treatments of his musicals in the past (especially "MAME"). So, unless he's 100% happy with the casting, and everything else, he won't approve the adaptation. I remember one of the pairings that was talked about in the '80s was Frank Sinatra and Dudley Moore...

The musical was quite good, but it disappointed me that they left out the boy's mother.
