The Most Overrated Film Ever

This Film is massivley overrated, I was expecting to see a funny film, instead I found it to be very silly with overacted performances from all the cast, Even the plot isnt that funny it all, all the twists and turns are expected and very obvious. How could this film ever get a best director and best screenplay nominations, Manhatten Should have been nominated for best Director instead, actually this film is incomparable to Manhattan. Also alot other films that were not nominated for best director in 1979 were much better like The China Syndrome and ...And Justice For All. I even feel quite wrong for comparing these films with that stupid film. This is definetly the most overrated film in cinema history.

De gustibus non disputandum. You are entitled to your opinion. In my opinion, La Cage is one of the funniest films ever made, fully deserving every nomination and award it received. The acting is superb throughout the cast. The only overacting is Albin's (who is a drag queen with a night-club act, for heaven's sake) and Jacob's (the "maid" who reveres and emulates Albin); I think we can safely say that the overacting is deliberate and accounts for much of the comedy. Perhaps you'd do better to say that this film is not your cup of tea rather than "the most overrated in cinema history."

OVERRATED?????!?!

Aaaah.... it has only 7/10 actually and only about 2000 votes. You complain about that? It's unknown for the most IMDB users and 7/10 is an outstanding rating?
I gave it 10/10 because it's EXCELLENT but overrated for anybody!? No!

Maybe the original poster doesn't know this but when it opened here in the US it played OVER A YEAR in most theatres. Hard to believe a "silly" and "overrated" comedy was so popular. You are entitled to your opinion but overrated???? I don't think so.

I had a hard time sitting through this movie. It was playing on MGMHD and I changed channels midway.

If broad comedy was ok for oscars, then why not nominate White chicks or Booty Call. Terry Crews must have had one of the funniest roles in the last decade. Booty Call is pretty funny too.

Can't believe this got more than China Syndrome or this played for a year.

Did you seriously just compare La Cage aux Folles to White Chicks?

God help you, sir. God help you.

Jane you ignorant slut! Lol. I'm just joking. Different people have different tastes so your opinion is very understandable, plus foreign movies have a total different atmosphere about them and that can sometimes be a factor. Although I enjoyed this movie, I think alot of the hype was over the risque subject matter of the movie as opposed to it being the "best" film of the year.

It's meant to be over the top. Come on, it's about diva transvestites and a very camp interpretation of homosexuality at that time. I think the rating it has here on IMDB is just about right, gave it a 7 myself.

I wish people would put 'in my opinion' when giving their 'opinion' on a film!

It is my opinion that both La Cage aux Folles and its sequel were absolutely brilliant. I even watched the sequel without subtitles and I cannot speak French!

Far from overated, it is a true classic, infact my favourite comedy of all time. I found both films (I have not seen the third yet) hysterically funny and with a charm not seen in many films these days.

If you like vulgarity rammed down your throat with a pitchfork (the pitchfork remark now evoking memories of LCAF2) then maybe the American Pie franchise is more up your street. If you like whimisical, yet observational comedy then this is the movice for you.
