Renato's Pepper In Pocket?
Is there some significance to the object Renato carries in his pocket that looks like a red chili pepper? He seems to pull it out and squeeze it when he is stressed about something (which he is most of the time!).

shareHey there :)
That thing that looks like a red chili pepper is actually a red rabbits foot which was a popular good luck charm during the 70's and 80's. Jason29
Actually, the little red 'chili' is what New Yorkers call an "Italian horn". Like the Turkish use of glass eyes, this horn is worn by many Italians to ward off or protect one from bad things (or the 'evil eye'.) I'm not sure what the Italian Mr. Tognazzi would have called this amulet but it is not surprising that he would incorporate one into his performance.
shareThis explain's a lot. Now I understand why he was saying he would give it up to the giant cross and lays it down, only to pick it back up again when Jacob falls down trying to go answer the doorbell.
shareI also thought it was a pepper, lol. I figured out it was his good luck charm but didn't know this is something typical or popular in certain cultures.
shareFunny that even after 10 years ago when I started this thread, it is still getting hits. lol
Still looks like a pepper! lol
