did I miss something? who was the informer who warned Robert Vaughan's character Cassevettes' character was on the way to the hotel to arrest the fake assassin?

Assume Vaughan was keeping tabs on Cassevettes' character because he knew Cassevettes was on to the plot, and moving in closer to the truth. Vaughan was certainly in an authoritative enough position (rank) to do this.
