Character development !!!!!!!

There are very very few movies where they have this many characters where the story absolutely allows each character to develop in such a short time ! That's what makes this movie and movies like American Graffitti so Great ! If it was done Now , They would waste so much on special effects and shock value, and Punk ass wannabe actors (who couldn't act there way out of a cereal box) rather than great character development actors ! anyone anyone?

I think you're right. And I think the real "sleeper" in this film's first half was Santos Morales......mebbe because his DI character reminded me of my DI in basic (whose name was Roderick). Even that cheese-dick greenie-weenie "Major Royal" was pretty detailed for a throwaway character, with his spit-shined haircut and tailored tiger-stripe fatigues. James Whitmore Jr was in fine form as well, as was that company-grade cupcake Captain Collins -- protrayed brilliantly by Scott Hyland.

Six Actual......OUT!

I thought it was kind of inconsistent and a little lacking in Washington's character. In one scene, he's being blamed by the DIs for not being a team player. Then, the next time we see him, Sergeant Loyce is telling him how he needs Washington to lead the platoon in Vietnam. There was no transition from slacker to leader. Then, when they get to Vietnam, he's a lance corporal who acts like he's the sergeant major. His character wasn't very believable.
