Was it just me??

I haven't seen this, nor have I seen the '46 movie. I do intend to. I just tonight finished reading the Chandler novel. Even though I had a vague knowledge of Bogart playing Marlowe in the movie, I still got a considerably younger protagonist in my mind's eye as I read. Not teen Marlowe or anything like that, but it definitely felt like a man in his thirties to me. Was it just me or did anyone else get that sense from the novel?

It`s actually stated in the novel that he`s 33. And even though 60 - Mitchum`s age during shooting TBS - is pushing it, both he and Bogart had the appropriate world weary cynicism in spades.

Bogart states he is 38 in the old version.
