Some Questions About Jennie Haniver.

It seems that this movie flip flops on some aspects of Jennie Haniver‘s personality or should I say mythology? Meaning that seeing her isn’t the portent of doom that many believe it is. She appears as a child to Magnus who reflects on their time together rather fondly from his memories of his childhood. One does get the feeling that she’d been visiting him regularly & that it’s been going on for awhile.

When they both carve their initials into the turtle, what I’m confused about is that can’t be THE turtle. Because after all that turtle was made for her by the devil in the 18th century or so when she jumped off the ship. If it is then that’s one BIG plot hole, unless you’re saying that the turtle didn’t come to exist until much later. It’s assumed I think that it was always a guardian of hers when she took the devil up on his deal.

It’s apparent that she never harmed Magnus when he was a child so again apparently she can appear to others in various forms without any intent of harming them or dooming them by just appearing to them. She does come across Magnus as a grown man when she finds him sleeping on the beach. Doesn’t harm him then either but I’m not making too much of that because she came upon him while he was unawares, so. I don’t think that qualifies.

Also she does appear to Magnus who chases her in the water & she “saves” him when he becomes overtaxed & begins to drown. Knowing all of this, it seems that deal she had with you know who was not everyone who she came across were doomed to a watery death or harm if she didn’t wish it. That part of the deal was that she could interact with others of her choosing but she had to kill enough people to satisfy the pact. Well MOST of the time, probably not all of the time she got what she wanted but still had to abide by who HE wanted her to harm. I’m guessing. Thoughts?
