What is it with this movie?

I too have been haunted by this movie for almost 25 years. The whole movie sticks with you like one of those bittersweet dreams. It was only now that I was able to find it. I never knew the name or any of the actors.

I am struck by other comments of similiar feelings about this movie. Why is that? I don't remember it being that good (and I've not seen it again in all these years), but the way Jennie sort of wistfully looks out to sea and mentions somthing about "a promise made long ago" has haunted me ever since.

Let's face it, Rankin & Bass had a way with children's television. From this movie to Rudolph, they made some of the most important and most loved specials of our time.

I didn't see Bermuda Depths until I was an adult (in fact, it was only about 2 years ago), and it's strange that I also have the same haunting feeling from it... There's something so tragic and beautiful about the story and it's almost all told in images. I recall there not being a ton of dialog. It's like a moving painting. It's quite a beautiful film...

I saw this when it was first shown on TV back in the late 70's and I was always struck by how haunting it was. Lately, I was able to get a hold of the movie and re-watch it again. Though the visuals haven't held up the story still intrigues and haunts.

This movie just screams for a remake with today's computer technology; only if they keep the story the same.

I think it's because the doomed romance between Magnus and Jennie is so tragic and poignant. Jennie's lonely plight adds a real haunting and bittersweet vibe to this film that's pretty hard to shake after seeing it.

I think they might have been experimenting with subliminal messages on this one. Everyone I've come across who has seen this seems weirdly affected by it.
