Wow, I'm not alone...

I was 8 when I saw this, and it's hung waaay back in my mind, like some far-gone dream that just won't go away completely. It's the weirdest thing. I think this movie cast some kind of weird spell on children who watched it?

Very strange to read some of the comments here. Very, very strange.

I haven't rewatched it yet, but if my memory still serves me, I remember it ended with the turtle, a boy, and a girl (?), swimming away in the ocean to some... secret, magical world in the sea. I remember I wanted to go with them.

I dunno, it's a weird feeling when I think of it.

This is a phenomenon, reading some of the comments here. I think a child psychologist could have a field day with this one.

*** SPOILERS AHEAD ***

I agree. I remember watching this when I was ten and I have never completely forgotten it, although I remember it ending differently: I remember her being the ghost of his childhood love and he riding the turtle to his death (drowning) so he could be with her. I was deeply moved by this ending, and I just read a synopsis on Wikipedia and found that this was not how it ended. Well, I liked my ending better so I am going to try to not see it again. :)
