Why 70s movies are like that??

Why the movies from 70's, most of them sci-fi, have the hair so "well done" and clean?? even when they are in a desert planet?
Clean clothes...

But the most annoyning is the colorful silk clothes, but the colors are so pathetic... This one, Zardoz, Silent Running, Logan Run, countless others...

Why they are so cheesy on this part??

reply

Because they were made in the 70s. That was the style back then.

Think that's bad wait until you notice the clear finger nail polish on all the fighter pilots hands.

I saw that, but it's probably not clear nail polish. Your fingernails look like that after you get a manicure (they buff your fingernail to a high shine).

Why do most of the actors and actresses in Lost look so well groomed and carefully made up most of the time?

Thanks for the links, but none of them talks about why they dress like were portrayed in 70's movies beside the fact that it is to "resemble a (dis)utopia" for any reason they have tought about the future...

Just wait till you get to Korean TV.
Just a few years ago they put out a Roswell knock-off. In the pilot episode, an away team of extraterrestrials landed in Korea, of all places. This was 400 years ago. The aliens all look like Koreans. (No surprise there.) All of them evidently went to the same barber and got the teenybopper Justin Bieber do, like this-- http://goo.gl/Y0Qxul
And this show went on to become the biggest hit in Southeast Asia, even bigger than Lost. In fact, most people here don't watch Lost. But they sure know this K-drama. So, 70s movies suck for you? Enjoy them while they still linger in people's memories. Because from now on there will be a lot of K this and K that. And people around you are going to think that K-anything is crazy cutting edge. As you've no doubt read in YouTube comments.

This message is to answer Raimar_Lunardi's question only.

The movies and TV shows of the 1970s are like that because when the 1960s ended, Hollywood was seeking a new look for their actors. What Hollywood does is they go with what the fashion industry is putting out, what hairstyles have emerged and anything else that applies.

Also, in the 1970s, a time of a larger amount of freedom to make movies and TV shows the way the creators saw fit (without upsetting the censors too much.) Part of that was putting the best looking female actresses in the most revealing clothes they could get away with.

Yes, it's dumb to give stars of this Sci. Fi. show the current looks of that
decade but just try and tell that to any network executive in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

That era of 'Jiggle Tv' (ladies with big chests & tight clothes
and perfect looking muscular men.) That lasted from 1977 to about 1981/1982).

That's why they look that way.....that all changed in the mid to late 1980s.

Still, it's kind of funny to look back at that now. I know it makes me laugh.
