I just picked up the 1978 BNB go to Japan novel and it has Tanner in it. I guess by the time the film was to shoot, Chris Barnes(Tanner) backed out. I heard a story that his parents didnt want him doing any more films but that might not be true.

It still would have been a bad sequel, but Tanner had a big part in the novelization, so at least he would have made the movie more entertaining.
