The photography teacher

Did it seem to anyone else that the photography teacher took an interest in Gail that bordered on creepy? I found the scene where he asked her to act "Hollywood sexy" for the camera especially odd. All along I was expecting him to be the stalker until this film changed from a thriller to a social drama.

I really thought it was the teacher, especially when she's developing her film, & he just appears behind her!

Yes. When it comes to borderline creepiness, he's well across that border.

I also think that at the time you could have more eccentric teachers in school and not think anything of it. Now, everyone has to be so squeaky clean and normal. Kids miss out. If you are in your 30s and beyond you probably remember a teacher from school that you know now was hitting the bottle and smoking cigs in their office. Probably doing some coke in between classes as well. Now, everyone is so politically correct that they think teachers have to be role models. They're just normal folks with substance abuse problems and fetishes like everyone else. He just happened to like pretty young girls. Can't fault him for that. Why else would he be a high school photography teacher?

I really thought it was the teacher. Remember, she got some of the creepy calls when she was babysitting at his house. He knew his own phone number, but I didn't know how any of the kids in school would know it.

I thought the photography teacher was a neat bit of misdirection on the filmmakers' part. He was clearly set up as a major red herring.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!

Total red herring, but I have to admit I was fooled. He stalks her, does the headlight trick, asks for sexy poses, presses her for more. I fondly remember The Gore Score giving this a zero rating, but it was more like a cross between Degrassi and The Hardy Boys. The lead did a decent job and you got to see what happenes when Mom nails you for coming home 20 minutes late.

I find him creepy too. But I think he was there to misdirect you into thinking maybe he is the guy after her.

But also agree there teachers like that back then and in the 80s. I had a teacher like this and he was my Earth Science teacher. Yet he often had an open forum where 13 & 14yrs old could talk about sex openly. It made me so uncomfortable.

Obviously the character was written to be a red herring, but I agree that the way he acted in the dark room, the way he referred to one of her photos as "sexy," was creepy and totally out of line for his position.
