Tim McIntire was a really good actor

I concur. Tim McIntire was a terrific character actor. Besides the films you already mentioned, McIntire was likewise great as the voice of the dog Blood in "A Boy and His Dog" and as shrewd top con Wasco in the underrated prison drama "Fast-Walking." I wrote the IMDB mini-bio on Mr. McIntire.

I agree, he was a fine actor.

It's kind of freaky that he died at nearly the same age as Alan Freed did, and both men had alcohol-related health issues that contributed to their deaths.

I agree. I just started watching some of his work I didn't catch before and his performances are nothing short of riveting. He really brings out the truth in his characters FAR MORE than many the contemporary, yet more highly rated actors of his time (Kevin Kline, Bill Hurt, Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, and Richard Gere for example). To me, he was of a higher caliber and could have swept the floor with any of those guys.
