Does Wuthering Heights really exist?

I can't find a copy of the 1978 WH anywhere - I need a Region 1 DVD (if available) or a VHS copy. Anyone have one they're willing to sell? Thank you much!!

Hi how are you? No I never got it - in fact I forgot about it. I just read the comment about Robert's videos and they have it but I didn't check yet if it's my region. Why can't all this be computerized to download on TV? Turn TV on, browse, order, pay, watch. How simple.

This is what it says under Order Info:
Tape Quality: The great majority of tapes are ordered directly from the supplier owning the copyright and come with full color packaging. Some other titles are in the public domain and often come without packaging and in some cases the tape quality may be below average and this is noted in the film listing when known. There is only a refund for tapes that are defective or improperly manufactured - and must be returned to us with 30 days and it will be replaced with an acceptable copy of the same title. Videos cannot be returned because you do not like a film - as that would amount to a free rental.
So I wrote to see if it will play here and they say YES. So I ordered it and can't wait to get it!!!

The DVD set arrived some time ago and I watched the first part intently. The second DVD though was, unfortunately, a copy of the first part. And since that time (more than two months now!!) I have been waiting from Roberts Videos for the second half. It's more than frustrating. Now I have to watch the first half over again because I've lost the momentum of it - that is IF it ever arrives! I'm ready to put a claim in with my credit card. What an unprofessional way for someone to run a business. I'll let you know when I've watched the entire film - maybe by Christmas??
PS The overall climate of the film is brooding and dark - great! What did you think of Ken Hutchinson's and Kay Adshead's acting?

It was EXTREME torture! It took almost 3 months to get both disks!!

I think Kay portrayed a true Catherine - especially the "mad bed scene." She was very convincing! As for Ken, I wasn't as impressed. He held back his anger in some of the first half's scenes. I think I caught him looking at the camera twice also. But then he seemed to slip into Heathcliff more convincingly in the end scenes. Cathryn Harrison's Cathy Linton was phenomenal - I even looked up her bio to see what else she had done. Richard Kay's Lockwood was so out-of-the-mold cheerful and optimistic. His overplayed window scene, I thought, was what I would expect of someone with that type nature. Pat Heywood is a fine actor but could have tweaked Ellen Dean a bit so as to wear "two faces" if you know what I mean. WH is by and far a gem of a story because we love and hate the characters at the same time . . . very much like in real life (a thin line between love and hate; we often hurt the ones we love, etc.) Ralph Fiennes is my favorite Heathcliff. He is at once evil, passionate, loving, crazy, but never kind. I feel Bronte's Heathcliff is supposed to be someone we are afraid to love and Fiennes does it for me.

Am wondering what you thought of the 1978 production and the quality of the DVD, I've ordered from Roberts Videos before and have been pleased that I could at least get to see programs I couldn't otherwise see. Although it was obvious that the DVD itself wasn't professionally produced.Thanks.

They botched the order and we got 2 copies of the 1st half. It took almost three months to complete the order. Emails were usually one liners always that it was on it's way. I'm glad you had better success. BTW, the copy was a very good one.

Thank you for your reply. The copies I have from Roberts have been good. What I would like to know , Is this version worth ordering. I am a big BBC fan and have never seen this version of Wuthering Heights.

It's not my favorite, but since I'm a big fan of the BBC productions, I just had to have it. The quality of the Roberts' one is very good.

I just got my DVD (region 2) and I think is the most accurate and touching version. Although Dalton is a very good Heathcliff, the script is dreadful.
The Merle Oberon/Laurence Olivier has some merit but the story is also cut and changed.
As for the Binoche/Fiennes version, perhaps he is a good Heathcliff (I always see Fiennes too polished to be Heathcliff, but, ok..., let's say yes), but she definitely IS NOT Cathy. And the second Cathy (she, again), looks terrible also.

I agree. I am watching it now and it's the best version.
