Hope they actually go through with it. Anywhere to see episodes (other than just season one and a handful of season two) available to watch anywhere online?

^^^This blog has quite a few episodes with the original music.^^^

I've been rambling on and on about Shout rescuing the series ever since the cheap, corporate money grab (attempt) version arrived years ago. I'd pay $500 for an all complete original versions set before I'd pay $19.99 for another hatchet job set.

Shout Factory did an amazing job with "Freaks & Geeks" to ensure as much of the original music was kept in the episodes. They gave care and attention to a beloved show. I have no doubt they will do the same with "WKRP in Cincinnati".

Wow, "The Wonder Years" with original music and "WKRP in Cincinnati" with original music both coming to DVD this year? I must be dreaming!!!

Hopefully as intact as possible, I'd also gladly pay a handsome price for an uncut release! How about offering this collection, to those willing.

I just saw the preorder on Amazon. I sure hope it's with the music left in. As much as I love the series, I don't see the point of buying it in the butchered-up way it's now available. Far too depressing.

The interesting thing on the Amazon page is that it doesn't give a release date so I'm wondering when this will be released.

It also says nothing about the music or any extras. I understand that it may not be possible for all of the music to be restore but please let some of it be restored (especially Hot-Blooded)

I watched it back in the day and every chance I got since then (which were plenty) and I just don't get all the hate for the music issue. When the first set was released I was a bit hesitant knowing the music had been replaced but was very pleasantly surprised to find out that it didn't impact my enjoyment of the show at all. After almost 40 years it's still a damned fine show and I don't think that removing songs that I don't remember having been a part of it in the first place isn't going to change that for me.

A small note on that though: The *only* time that the music was a major issue for me was during the contest that couldn't be won. They didn't need to use the same songs but good grief! They could've at least made it seem as difficult! They wrecked the entire premise of the episode!

I hope this is released before the end of the year. It may be unrealistic to expect all the music to be included, but I'm certain it will be an improvement over the butchered original Season 1 release.

I am absolutely loving Shout Factory this year: Newhart, Hill Street Blues, WKRP. Those are three of the four shows I've been waiting for over a decade to be released in full on DVD. Hopefully they'll do St. Elsewhere next.

It's out this October. You can get it in September if you order it directly from Shout Factory.

Quote on the Shout! Factory page:

WKRP in Cincinnati has had a complicated history of music rights restrictions. To make this the most comprehensive DVD release possible, we are doing our best to include every scene uncut and to license as much original music as possible.

We’re Spinnin’ The Hits And Bringin’ The Laughter!

Pairing an impeccable ensemble cast with hilarious wit and popular tunes, WKRP In Cincinnati celebrated four amazing seasons, making it the quintessential situation comedy for any music lover! Join everyone's favorite radio DJs—the rockin' Dr. Johnny Fever (Howard Hesseman) and the soulful Venus Flytrap (Tim Reid)—as they weave through the inner-office antics of the crazy WKRP staff; including the station's program director Andy (Gary Sandy), indecisive manager Arthur (Gordon Jump), advertising executive Herb (Frank Bonner), quirky news man Les Nessman (Richard Sanders), young ingénue Bailey (Jan Smithers) and, of course, the station's lovely receptionist, Jennifer (Loni Anderson). So sit back and enjoy the sound of uproarious laughter as you watch every episode of this iconic series!

This is the latest from Amazon.com pre-order page. Is 70% of the music enough for the price??
"Please note: Where possible, original music from the series is included in this release. Over 70% of the original music is contained in the set. Missing music is due to inability to obtain rights for some content."

The series is exceptionally well done. When music has been replaced, it has usually been replaced with stuff that sounds a lot like the original music. Most of the replacements happened because the rights-holders simply would not allow Shout to license their music...but at least 95% of the 'best' music moments are there. It's amazing to see this great show again, mostly uncut, after all this time.
