I'm pretty sure that the piece you are thinking of is from Deux Arabesques
I. Andantino con moto by Claude Debussy.
All of the music in the production comes from "snipets" of Debussy.
They used portions of Debussy pieces that communicate joy and happiness as well as those that communicate tension.

The music is by Claude Dubussy. Title: Reverie.

This series evoked a warm peculiar atmosphere. It felt as if one were transported walking in the English countryside by the sea on a perfect day in the 1930's and stopped to listen at the window of a beautiful manor house.
Wonderful performances by all the cast.

It was a wonderful choice of music. I have always loved this piece - in fact anything by Debussy - as it has always made me think of Cornwall and the sea, long before it was used for 'Rebecca'. I live in Cornwall and one day whilst walking alone in the grounds of Trerice house this music came floating down to me from an upstairs window. I was immediately transported back to the 1970s and this wonderful drama series. I asked at the house but never discovered who was playing it and was told the upstairs rooms were empty at the time I was walking in the garden...
