But I thought Project Blue Book ended in 1969???

This series showed Air Force investigators going around about 1978-1979 driving late model autos and talking to people wearing fashions from about that time. But if Project Blue Book ended in 1969, why did they show the investigations as still active ten years later? Should they not have been more true to the facts and created the show as a period piece of the 1960s?

It was a tv show... tv shows aren't usually noted for their reliance on fact or historical accuracy. The show was never intended to be a documentary.

Take a look at M*A*S*H... it was on the air for 11 years, but the Korean War only lasted 3 years.

It's a lot cheaper setting a show in modern day, than it is to try to recreate the past.

Besides that, the show was a dramatization, basically what Dragnet was to crime. Based on real stories, but changed to make it a better TV show and in the present era.

Like the show about the Soccoro case. They made the cop who saw the UFO black instead of hispanic, added a bit about race relations, added an extra cop, etc. Still recognizable, but heavily dramatized. After all, it was meant to be entertainment, not a documentary.

Yes, they did the same thing to the story about the Kentucky family in the 1950s whose farm was overrun with glowing aliens after sundown. The real account reads a lot more scarrier than the Project UFO episode portrayed.

Jack Webb poured over Blue Book files and came up with these episodes that are not accurate on any account, case book number, date, investigation, etc..He took parts of actual cases, added things here, made up things there. But in the end, total fiction. A shame since there are many cases that Blue Book couldn't solve that could have made for a better series, like the Betty and Barney Hill movie with James Earl Jones. This series came on when I was in High School. I thought it was great back then. Wish it was true to the cases now.
