Who could play Kingsfield today?
I always loved this show and would like to see it remade. Assuming someone did so, who do you imagine could portray Prof Kingsfield today?

shareIt appears my earlier reply did not go or I cannot find it here.
Today we discussed the top TV show of all time and the Paper Chase wins
I would pick Malcolm McDowell to play Kingsfield in any new series of The Paper Chase.
well I think remakes, on the whole, suck! But the nearest equivalent to John Houseman, to my mind, would be a guy who has a small part in Season 1 Episode An Act od Desperation as a slightly smarmy tutor named Tully: Charles Ogden Stiers! He has the requisite ability to vocally crush, inspire or terrify, the, er, rotundity... and is able to give the impression, at least, of having a considerable intelligence. Plus he trained at Julliard and was in Houseman's Acting Company.
Besides, if you read Houseman's FANTASTIC trilogy of Autobiographies, you'd want to hire an American; Houseman was so involved in the theatre world of your country, as producer, director and teacher that you shouldn't dive for an Englishman as a first option...
Definitely, DOS. He's the only one that comes close to Houseman. Probably not an accident that he could do that character to perfection in M*A*S*H.
shareWilliam Shatner.
shareI don't think anyone can replicate John Houseman, but how about the guy who played Mr. Feeney on Boy Meets World? (He has experience as a teacher chastising his students.)
shareIf he's still alive, how about Wilford Brimley?
"Here's a dime. Phone your mother and tell her there's serious doubts
about you becoming a lawyer".
"'Ja hear what I said"?
There's a word for people who think everyone is conspiring against them.
That's right: perceptive!

Joss Ackland
shareDavid Ogden Stiers (whose performance as Major Winchester in M*A*S*H was itself, I suspect, based somewhat on Houseman's portrayal of Kingsfield).
