Mork & Mindy Cartoon Show (1982-1983)

Does anybody remember this? Apparently there was a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon show based very loosely on the series which aired in 1982-1983, using most of the original cast for voices (including Robin Williams). In this version Mork and Mindy are both teenagers and Mork rents a room from Mindy and her father while attending the local high school. He also has a pet dog from Ork. The show was paired with a Laverne and Shirley/ Fonzie series in which L&S are in the Army and Fonzie, um, sort of hangs around I guess.

Here's the introduction, which is all I've been able to find of the show:

Honestly, it looks pretty terrible, but typical of 1970s/ 1980s gimmicky Saturday morning shows that were based on live action shows. Not surprised it only lasted one season, but it's sort of a curio from the time. I guess the studio was trying to keep the property alive after the live action show got canceled in the summer of 1982.

That was way before my time. It seems a lot of sitcoms had their own cartoons. Even M*A*S*H had a cartoon (where the 4077th was in the arctic and the doctors werent doctors but were a dogsledding team). Roseanne had two cartoons.

I'd make someone 100 dollars cheaper if they ever released those cartoons as a box set.

I found a Saturday morning preview for new cartoons in fall 1982 that includes the Mork and Mindy one, starting around 9:36:

I have to say the guy playing Mork doesn't sound anything like Robin Williams, I don't think that's him.

reply

It probably wasnt him.

No one can voice a Robin Williams character convincingly that isnt Robin Williams. Thats why i cant watch the second Aladdin movie.

RW may have voiced Mork in the opening credits sequence, but it's almost certainly some uncredited actor doing the voice in the actual show. That is Pam Dawber, though.

Based on the clip in the preview show, it looks like a pretty horrible cartoon. Maybe if they rerelease the Mork and Mindy DVDs in a box set, they'll throw in the cartoon episodes since most people probably haven't seen them. But I don't think they'll watch them more than once.

I remember watching this cartoon, and have a fuzzy memory of watching this preview (or maybe another cartoon preview... it was a long time ago). But I definitely watched the cartoon.

I was amused that during Dick Clark's introduction for the M&M cartoon (8:30) that he gets interrupted by Orson. Orson later interrupts towards the end of the program (part 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD1I56FA4gE, at 5:00).

Here is IMDb's entry for the cartoon:

I played the clip and just listened, not watching it. It *could* be Robin. And I say this after watching the Fonzie clip. If they didn't have Henry Winkler there shown a split screen with the cartoon, I would not have thought it was him.

I wish it was Robin and Pam doing the voices split screen with the cartoon instead. That would have been *AWESOME*!

I believe that Dave Coulier (Joey on Full House) was the voice of the cartoon Mork.

That's what the rumor is - but Robin is also credited.

What was at the end of One Hour Photo? I can't remember, was it after the credits? I usually turn off the film after the credits starts.
