I watched this back in the 80s being interested in all the characters. I didn't realize just how much they were all (every one of them) so shallow and users of people. I must have missed it the first time or didn't quite see how bad they were. Shallow as they were still very interesting.

and they are real people so shallow or users or not, they are a part of history. some parts were emphasized or de-emphasized for dramatic license. and this shows only one aspect of the complexity of people who are in the public sector.
