The show needed more story arcs

I don't like how every episode was its own self contained story. The story for each episode got repetitive very quickly. How many times is David gonna walk into an evil scheme that's going on?

reply

If it was done now yes. Banner being the only character adapted from the comics and the show grounded in reality dealing with real world issues were initially interesting but gotten tiresome by later seasons. Nowadays instead of crooks it would be super villains or some episodes being like a chase and would have more complex plots.

Yes, but most of all it needed to follow its own premise and be one gigantic long arc of David searching for a cure in every episode...as opposed to what we got, which is a series in which David is said to be desperately searching for a cure, yet he inexplicably spends 99.9999999999999999% of his life-time completely ignoring that search.

Not sure what you are trying to say. If every episode was NOT it's own story, THAT would get repetitive very quickly. The producers PURPOSELY made it different than the comics. The "evil schemes" that David walked into every week are not much different than the typical crime drama, only with the HULK as the hero...aka the one that gets the bad guys in the end.

If it was made now it wouldn't necessarily be episodic, be like Netflix Marvel shows five hour movie divided into episodes.

It was a strong 70's type show where the only sci fi element is the main character and only fights crooks.

reply

Nowadays it would be season long storylines and more complicated situations like having everyone who Banner comes across on his travels become perfectly aware he is The Hulk.

reply

Like most shows at the time they set up a premise that never changes, no lasting consequences etc. If the same show was made today it would be chock full of story arcs, recurring & supporting characters and cool special effects.

Maybe or maybe not

It was made at the ancient times where TV shows didn't have long story arc or reverse plot or character point half way through, they had to stay the same throughout.

The basic premise of everyone thinking Banner is dead wouldn't work now in the long run and in a realistic sense, what if he bumped into somebody from a previous episode or from his former work life from the pilot? The whole thing would be blown to bits.

If your gonna do a new adaptation you have to make it different, if you give people the exact same thing they're gonna think "Oh I've seen all this".

I see your point. Thanks

If they did a Hulk show today have it be in a serialized format not stand alone adventures.
