THIS ONE OF THE GREATEST CARTOON SERIES EVER
I ENJOYED WATCHING IT WHEN I WAS A KID
NOT TO MENTION OUR FAVORITE CHARECTER "ABSEY" IN THE ARABIC DUBBED VERSION :)

THERE IS NO ARAB KID WHO HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT "ADNAN AND LENA"
EVERYBODY LOVED IT

In Italy has been a amazing success too! And everyone of my age (I'm 31) remember it. It has been translated in "Conan il ragazzo del futuro", while the girl was Lana.
They still show it sometimes, and everytime I see it I'm so sad in the end! Maybe Miazaky should consider to make a longer movie, I'm sure that even in theatres it would have a so huge success :-)

His second movie, Laputa, is a compact version of the story.
We have Pazu (Conan) and Sheeta (Lana). Sheeta, like Lana is the key to a secret technology, and is beeing persuit by Muska (Lepka), who wants to rule the world. And we also have a Captain Dice type of character in Dola the Air Pirate. And in the end Muska has the same fate as Lepka.

I'm from Portugal and this series was a huge hit back in 1983/1984. Everybody in their late 20s/early 30s knows this series. Majr hit, and everybody loved it. In here it was called "Conan, O Rapaz Do Futuro", which is a direct literal translation of "Future Boy Conan". I'm glad to know that it was also a major hit inother countries, like Italy, UK and the middle east. I wonder how the japaneses think of this series, though, as i have not read any word from somebody from Japan.

ArkadyRenko, in your post, I suspect that you meant to say France, NOT UK. As far as I know, "Future Boy Conan" has never been aired on UK TV. Nor has it been evere dubbed in English, for that matter. In his review, chadwholovedme (from Bristol, UK) confirms this fact. As for how Japanese think of this TV show... Well, recently TV Asahi has boadcasted the list of the Top 100 Animated TV Series ever made, based on a nation-wide survey conducted with multiple age-groups. "Future Boy Conan" was at number 57. After that, TV Asahi has run a web-poll for the same reason. "Future Boy Conan" once again was at number 57!!! That alone can give you an idea how popular it is in Japan. Also, there has been a PC game based on this show, released in 1992 by Telenet Japan, and another one for Play Station 2, released on Japan as recent as August 25th, 2005 by D3! Still in doubt how popular this anime is in Japan?? (^_^). It has been also popular in Korea. A seven-DVD special collector's edition of this show has been released there just about 2 years ago. The same thing goes for Honk Kong and China, I think. Here, in the area where I live in the eastern part of Saudi Arabia, almost everyone up to the age of 30 or a little more has both seen it and enjoyed it so much (^_^).

I absolutely love this series. im from the UAE and everyone i know here seems to recall the plot and all the major characters. this show had such an impact and it still does. they rarely show it on TV but we bought all the episodes on VHS and i still watch it with my kid brothers. the character captain .. something i dont know the name in English (in arabic its captain namiq) is such a funny character and the voice actor was truly great. i also have to mention the music which is in my opinion the best anime score. just hearing the piece over the prolouge is chilling and then the sorrow theme.. it brings back so many emotions.. ive heard that a film was made but i never got the chance to see it. i wonder how it is possible to fit such a vast and deep story in a single picture. only a trilogy would do it justice.

This is one of the most successful Animes in the Middle East, I don't think it's still being aired though, and of course no Middle Eastern would not remember "Adnan wa Leena", same goes for "Captain Majid" (Captain Tsubasa). ;)

I used to watch "Adnan wa Lina" in Lebanon before I left ...As a kid,I was so attached to this cartoon's show..I remember many times I canceled picnics or visits to cousins because I didn't want to miss one of these episodes... I liked Absy and his hair...... Namek and his wierd attachment to the cold Samira....it was fun.. I will never forget them...It was smart and entertaining like all miyazaki works ..Actually, I knew recently that it was made by miyazaki after watching "Howl's moving castle" and "spirited away". Most of his heros look a like....They look weak and young but they are actuallly smart with a braveheart.

I doubt that any nation in the world has been attached to this series as the middle east .Maybe because we haven't had our ones . Adnan was simply our idol, our hero , our superman and still is.

i think it was mainly dubbed by iraqis not saudis, although the arab gulf institution was based in kuwait.
