Goku's Inspiration?

I always wondered what was Akira Toriyama's inspiration for young Goku, a boy who lives far from the modern world, always happy, naive, monkey-like. Am I the only one who sees ressemblances?

Even how they meet Bulma/Lana is similar(each hero is carrying home a huge fish they'd just caught with their bare hands).

So, yes, I can see some resemblance/inspiration. :)

**edit**Well, this being one of the few things Miyazaki's done that I HAVEN'T seen, I started watching this a couple of nights ago on Youtube.

Anyway, other things I've found similar are: both's use of a pole/staff as their primary weapon/tool(Power Pole for Goku and Conan's fishing spear), Conan's meeting Jimsy and how they act towards each other is very similar to the rivalry between Krillin and Goku as kids...well, the rivalry is mostly from Krillin's side much like with Jimsy) and the fact that both Conan and Goku were raised by adoptive guardians whom they refer to as their 'grandpa/gramps/etc'.

What choice do I have? It is as if you have grabbed me by the base of my snarglies!

Yep! Akira Toriyama probably got inspired from Future Boy Conan to start with, but fortunately he got creative and went his own way after several books! Though, the amount of things he borrowed from this series still is almost unbelievable!
