Why no Series 2?

We are very much enjoying Duchess of Duke Street Series 1 -- it does not appear that Series 2 has been released in the U.S. -- it is two discs and 5 hours. Anybody know if it is coming out soon?

There were two series; Series 1 had 5 episodes, and series 2 had 6. I'm not familar with the DVD. In the first series Louisa gets the hotel, and I believe it ends with Charlie going off to France. In the second series, Charlie dies from his battlefield injuries. Charlie's death is bittersweet because he and Louisa had agreed to marry "once the guns have stopped". Louisa then brings their daughter back to London. I often wonder why the writers let Charlie die - I think there could have been many script possibilities had Charlie and Louisa married.

Just save your tapes. You never know what they may delete to fit on DVDs.

I have both Series 1 and 2 on VHS purchased tapes. I just watched all 11 tapes and tho old, the quality looks brand new. Somehow, the BBC gets it right and makes tapes AND DVD's to last.

I won't buy the DVDs until the tapes give out.

Wonderful series; however, I wouldn't go so far as to say that "Upstairs, Downstairs" wasn't as good..it WAS, and then some. But "Duchess.." is based on a true story.."Upstairs.." is fiction. They were both wonderful, IMO..and I'd never tire of watching these stories.

Louise Trotter's real name was Rosa Lewis and she was renowned as the best cook in London..she did own the Cavendish Hotel on the corner of Jermyn Street and Duke Street.
Rosa Lewis was born in Leyton, Essex in 1867 and died in 1952 in her sleep at the age of 85...she was known as the Queen of Cooks. It is said that the King of England made it possible for her to buy the "Bentinck Hotel".
