I love this version and hope there is never a remake, but....


You know they could do much better aging effects with make-up today. Gregory Harrison and Cristina Raines still look 20something even when made up to look older.

And, the fake beards on some of the actors look as if they're about to fall off.

Yes, the hair and makeup can be distracting. But today's big HDTVs make them show up more. They probably didn't look half bad on the TVs at the time.

There's no excuse for continuing to film a scene (the one with McKeag alone in the cabin) where his beard is clearly falling off. That's just people not caring enough.

And there is no way that things like that, and the aging Zendt's flat out ridiculous makeup, were acceptable because it was the 70s or on low def analogue TV.

As far as I'm concerned the makeup in this series is the worst of ANY mainstream production I have ever seen. It improves in later episodes to be fair.

They don't necessarily always do better makeup today. The worst fake beard I've ever seen in a movie is Kenneth Brannagh's in "All is True", made in 2018.
