What is the difference in the spaceship Phoenix and the God Phoenix? I know tha latter looks like a giant bird. I've never seen it in an episode. Can anyone help?

The difference is that the Phoenix is the name of the ship used in Battle of the Planets, while the God Phoenix is that name of the same ship in the original Japanese version of the series. Okay, there are other differences too, mostly due to the nature of the alteration from Gatchaman to BotP (Things like the Phoenix being able to travel through space, while the God Phoenix could achieve Earth orbit, but not travel much further), but they are visually the same ship.
If you're thinking about the white ship with red wings and a bird face on the nose, that's the New God Phoenix. It never appeared in any episodes of Battle of the Planets. It was the replacement for the original God Phoenix during the Japanese sequel series, Gatchaman II.
