Please clarify: Which is Better Series - BOP or G-Force?

I feel like i'm missing out on some great action. Has anyone seen both and can offer up differences?

Once again, this gets down to personal tastes. In general terms, many people feel that "Battle of the Planets" was overall superior, mostly due to having voice talent and new music that they feel was superior to what was used in "G-Force." But "G-Force" wins the argument as to which series was more faithful to the original Japanese series, because it was not as highly edited and did not insert characters like 7-Zark-7 into things. So, really, it all depends on what you're looking for. If you want better voices and original music, and don't mind a modified storyline, then go with BotP. If you want a more faithful story, and don't mind so-so voicework and original music, then go with "G-Force." In the end, whichever version is "better" is really up to you to decide.

Thanks James!

What is your personal preferance?

Ideally an English subtitled Gathaman seems the best choice. Does this exist?

Have you seen the additional Series? and what do you think?

reply

My personal preference between "Battle of the Planets," G-Force," and "Eagle Riders?" I'd have to go with BotP, in part because it was the first one I saw and in part because I feel that the production values on it were higher than they were with the other two. That said, I would take the original "Gatchaman" over BotP. As nice as BotP is, I just feel that the original version was better.

The "Gatchaman" DVDs that ADV released have the option of watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles. So, yes, that does exist.

Yes, I've seen the sequel series. They are entertaining, and well worth seeing for the continuation past the events of the original 105 episodes. Still, when all is said and done, the original series remains the best of the three. It had superior writing, superior animation, superior music, and was just, well, superior!

Battle of the Planets has better (and more experienced) voice actors (Casey Kasem, Janet Waldo, Ronnie Schell, Alan Dinehart), while G-Force is mostly faithful to the original stories. However, BOTP uses the original incidental music, while G-Force uses new, headache-inducing stuff. The names used in G-Force are extremely childish: Dirk Daring, Ace Goodheart, Agatha June, Hooty, and Peewee. The BOTP are straightforward: Mark, Jason, Princess, Tiny and Keeyop. 7-Zark-7 was added to bridge edited scenes and provide narration, which is distracting. G-Force identified Galactor (Zoltar in BOTP and Berg Katse in Gatchaman) in both male and female forms, while BOTP identified them as seperate characters (Zoltar's sister).

My personal preference is BOTP, as I grew up with it and first encountered Gatchaman in this form. G-Force turned me off at first, but I grew to enjoy the more faitful adaptation, especially the key arc episodes. However, neither included the ending, which I never got to see until acquiring a bootleg of the Gatchaman movie. The Rhino DVD's were great for comparison, but never completed. Thank heaven for ADVision for bring the original Gatchaman to America, intact. Too bad Gatchaman II and Fighter didn't make it as well (still haven't seen Eagle Riders for the adapted version).

IMO G Force was way better than BOTP but keep in mind that I:

A) Grew up with G Force
B) Saw it in Spanish , so complains about the english dub don't apply here, since the spanish dub for G Force was really good.

I did watch a few BOTP when The Anime Network was on air but I didn't liked it, though I'll say the voice acting was good. Now as an adult I'll say that the best way to watch Gatchaman is in Japanese with subtitles but when I'm not in the mood of subtitles I'll watch G Force, if only for nostalgia's sake. BTW I'm watching now Eagle Riders, found a DVD set ( nothing official of course but decent quality) and I'm enjoying it.

You, will never realize, what darkness lies inside, inside my own mind...

I finally acquired Eagle Riders and it was a bit odd hearing Bryan Cranston, after watching him on Malcolm in the Middle (haven't seen Breaking Bad). He's also featured in the animated Batman Year One as Lt. Jim Gordon.

I felt the same way about Bryan

I pick Battle of the Planets. Battle Of The Planets has mild annoyances such as Added characters, the voice of Hanna-Barbera's version of Robin, and the voice of Judy Jetson. The worst ever is the new Jinpei/Keyop but he isn't in every scene.

On the other hand. The "music" of G-Force is constantly playing. I simply can not tune it out. Battle Of The Planets has better production quality.

If you want to have a better dub, skip G-Force: Guardians Of Space, and try to find the 2005 ADV Films version of Gatchaman. I see no reason why the 2005 version shouldn't be broadcast on Adult Swim. And if you edit out the occasional "hell", "damn", and "bastard" words ... It could air on regular Cartoon Network.

I grew up on Botp, it was one of the very first cartoons I remember watching and saying to myself "man this is cool as hell" lol I was like 4. It was the first cartoon I learned when it was on and what days so I made sure not to miss it. When Voltron came out I felt a strong connection to it because it was so similar. I've seen some G-Force and prefer Botp.
