Can't believe this has no message board, considering...
...that the 2008 remake, with William Hurt, has about five full pages of messages.
I thought this was a fantastic film. Very subtle, with sly comedy and drama expertly woven together, and with such wonderful comments on the human condition. Plus, it offered a glimpse of parts of Japan - namely, the northern island of Hokkaido - that is just not something you see very often on the screen.
See it if you ever get a chance. I rented my copy from Scarecrow Video in Seattle. I don't know what other places might have it. NetFlix, as of this post, doesn't seem to carry it, only the 2008 remake.
