cut scenes

A friend in the animation biz (who didn't work on Wizards) told me that

--there was once a scene that had to be cut out to get a PG, when Blackwolf's wife/concubine/whatever she is stops Blackwolf from slicing up Elinore, she's carrying her swaddled baby. My friend says that in the cut scene it's revealed that the baby is a mutant, and it's dead, because Blackwolf killed it!!

--There was a lot more cursing in the original. When Blackwolf's men are searching the church where they find the little religious dudes one of the badguys says, "Hey, what is all this s#!t?" but you only hear him say "Hey, what is all this sh-" in all the released versions.

--more nude elves and fairies

Anyone know about this? DVD is coming out--probably won't have this stuff on it, but cool if it did...

Also, did y'all know there was going to be a sequel? Right after Cool World wrapped production Bakshi was gonna do Wizards 2, but when CW flopped W2 was canned. I was gonna apply to work there (as an animator). Maybe it's good it never happened.

"there was once a scene that had to be cut out to get a PG, when Blackwolf's wife/concubine/whatever she is stops Blackwolf from slicing up Elinore, she's carrying her swaddled baby."

This is in the released version, and it's Weehawk who attacks her yelling "Slut" and then Blackwolfs wife stops him.

"My friend says that in the cut scene it's revealed that the baby is a mutant, and it's dead, because Blackwolf killed it!!"

This is in the released version, Blackwolf is talking to his wife about how he wants to take over the world and asks some advisors wether is son will be human or mutant and these three wise men tell him mutant. And Blackwolf says "The next one won't be" and she yells something about having the baby killed.

"There was a lot more cursing in the original. When Blackwolf's men are searching the church where they find the little religious dudes one of the badguys says, "Hey, what is all this s#!t?" but you only hear him say "Hey, what is all this sh-" in all the released versions."
One of them says "Hey, what is all this sh--" and the other guy interupts him with Shhh. A censor thing no doubt.

I don't know about any cut scenes, I've learned a lot about this movie and from what I can gather there is no cut scenes, and from what you stated they are in every release I've seen(except they are different characters)

I have however heard of someone talking about Avatar smoking bong which they remember in the theatrical release. But I've only heard of that once. Wether it's true or not? *shrug* If you really want the answers to your questions go to www.ralphbakshi.com and find his e-mail address and ask him yourself.

I did hear about the sequel, it's a damn shame it never happened. I would love to see a sequel done now with computer generated effects and stuff, it could be pretty cool. Or has the day and age of Ralph Bakshi passed? Would audiences not really accept the rough drawings and such? Who knows.

I heard the thing about Avatar with a bong too, but I'm starting to think it's BS since I only heard it from one person. I e-mailed Bakshi via his site concerning this, but haven't gotten a reply yet. Get this, Bakshi fans, I found an onion article that referenced Bakshi!

What's he up to now? I've heard some wild stories from people I work with in the biz--he used to hit on all the pretty women in the studio (like, REALLY hit on them, be "inappropriate" as we say these days), once in a meeting he wiped his butt with a drawing he didn't like and handed it back, one time he came in with both his arms broken and said, "Skiing accident..." (i.e., someone who gave him money came for repayment). Of course, these are just things people said, they might all be just talk. Funny stuff tho. Sounds like he's quite a character...

I don't know about any of this stuff. At the moment he's just painting in upstate New York.

I pretty distinctly remember the bong, though I've forgotten a lot about the movie. I haven't seen it since its release, and am quite excited about the DVD. It wasn't a very important film, except for the innovative animation, nor even a particularly good film, but it was fun, Good v Evil sort of thing, and scantily-clad fairies. So don't take it too seriously. I think I once read that Bakshi lost people in the Holocaust, (Has anyone else heard that?) so probably he isn't that biggest fan of Hitler.

I will verify that there WAS indeed a bong scene with Avartar in the theatrical version of Wizards. I saw it back in '77 when it was released. Avatar clutches and lights the bong using his feet during the scene right before the President gets shot by Necron99 (Peace).

There was alot more graphic language in original version, quite literally, virtually every other line contained a curse word; it was rated X. (back when "X" meant mature audiences)

The current EXTREMELY butchered PG version is virtually unwatchable. I wish Bashki would get his sh*t together and give us DVD version of the original release. I inquired about 10 years ago about this and was told pensively by his assistant that it's available on laserdisc.

OK wait a second. In the released version he smokes a cigar with his foot, now knowing how much money problems the film had I doubt they went back and edited that just for the censors for a video release.

This is a lie. It was never rated X for proof go to your local library and look at their microfilm catalogue and look at old ads for Wizards. It was always rated PG.
