Came about before Star Wars....

....yet failed to capture the imagination of the masses like the space opera film did. If anything, there are heavy similarities between the two films, and both are incredibly ripe with imagination.

I'd argue that there's a massive gap in the two films' range of appeal. I'll give you the "similarities" between the two films (omitting the "heavy"), inasmuch as both deal with good vs. evil (the latter in the form of fascistic armies). But IMHO, Bakshi's never been much of a captivating storyteller, nor can he choreograph action scenes or set pieces to rival Star Wars. Graphically, he's great, if you can stand the rotoscoping, but I don't think there was much in Wizards to grab audiences that would later flock to Star Wars.

Additionally, Wizards' grim imagery, death-related subject matter, barbarism and Nazism is more than a bit antithetical to the very point behind Star Wars' appeal.

Wizards is based off characters from the late Vaugh Bode. I think you just don't do research, Jab.

Both feature Mark Hamill as well (at least in voice here).

I think visually Wizards is far more imaginative looking than Star Wars, which appears rather drab considering most of the film involves a desert planet and an anti-septic space station. As a film-going experience, Star Wars is far, far superior to Wizards. I was just wondering why Wizards is nearly forgotten while Star Wars wasn't.
